Um. Is it just me, or is anyone else totally flabbergasted that I'm having a baby in 10 weeks? 10 WEEKS. That's, like, I don't know. Soon.
It seemed at first like pregnancy was such a long process, and I sometimes felt like I was going to be pregnant approximately forever. But now, all the sudden, it's right around the corner.
I thought I was nesting before, but suddenly the need to get it together is almost overwhelming. Probably because it has suddenly occurred to me that not only will I be going to the hospital in approximately 10 weeks to bring another human being into the world, and oh my god isn't that amazing, but it also occurs to me that they won't let me bring that baby home with me unless I have, like, a carseat. Also, maybe I should buy some, you know, diapers. I hear babies use those.
T-minus 16 days until the big move. I just hope that Ikea and Target are ready for the crazy, pregnant, nesting lady to come to town. They have no idea.
Last night was a lovely, gluttonous affair. We got tickets (comped through work - woo!) for a super awesome wine and food tasting at the SF Opera House. 30 of San Francisco's top restaurants and almost 100 vineyards were there, and they spanned 3 glorious floors of some of the best food and wine in the country. Freaking amazing. Obviously, I had to abstain from the wine tasting, and I definitely got a few double takes as people noticed my big belly meandering through the crowds. But seriously. It was kind of a pregnant girl's dream smorgasboard.
It was night we soon won't forget and definitely a San Francisco experience. There was a Napa restaurant there doing mini steak sandwiches with carmelized onions on fresh baked rolls, and the restaurant also had the farmer responsible for raising the beef there to speak with people. That's one of the many things I love about the SF food scene: restaurants make such an effort to use local, organic ingredients and so many people truly care where their food comes from. And, just as an aside because I can't stop thinking about it, did I mention the lavender chocolates? Good sweet lord.
I waddled out of there after 3 hours of high-quality nibbling. When I got home and was changing into PJs, I noticed that my stomach was so full and distended that my belly button was almost gone. This morning it was back to normal (by normal, I mean still almost gone but still there damnit). If I wasn't pregnant I would definitely be doing some kind of cleanse for a couple days. One just can't eat that much foie gras infused mashed potatoes with beef cheeks and expect to have a normal cholesterol count.
I'm actually looking forward to a weekend of packing and organizing, so I'm clearly ready to make this change. Bring on the boxes.
